Message to our community from West Manchester Township Police Department:
Yesterday we lost three of our brother officers and two other officers were shot and fighting for their lives in an incident as they were serving an arrest warrant in Spring Grove Pennsylvania. Our officers responded as fast as we could to assist the officers from Northern York County Regional Police Department and the York County Sheriff’s Office during this horrible and tragic incident. Now we are trying to do what we can to help their agency while they prepare to honor their officers who lost their lives while serving their community and gave everything in the line of duty. All the departments and officers in York County are stepping up and doing what they can to help, support and honor these officers. We are all hurting and trying to digest what happened on Wednesday in Spring Grove. I also know that our citizens are hurting and trying to do the same, and to try to understand this the best they can. As we escorted the officers to the coroner’s office last night, I saw all of you that stood outside and honored the fallen officers and the officers that are serving York County. Thank you all for taking the time to honor them and to stand in support of our profession as we honor those who we lost. Our agency had officers come in from off duty status just to participate in the escort and also to cover the areas that Northern York County Regional Police cover adjacent to us. We gladly offered to do what we could to help in any way possible. We will continue to help our brothers and sisters from Northern York County Regional Police Department and the York County Sheriff’s Office. Our agency will be there to help them in any way possible, support them and their families and we also need to make sure the emergency responders and our officers are coping with this incident properly.
I would simply ask for this from you…if you see a police officer, please think of them as they put their lives on the line each and every day for you. We do this job because we want to serve and protect our citizens and make a difference. Just a simple hello, thank you, or pleasantry is very appreciated. We all know the dangers and risks we face daily, but we put on our uniforms, ballistic vests, and put ourselves in harms way despite all this and we will continue doing so while we honor the sacrifice of those we lost in the coming weeks ahead.
