LANSDALE BOROUGH- This week’s Traffic Talk focuses on malfunctioning traffic lights at intersections. For a number of different reasons, drivers may encounter an intersection where the signal is not functioning properly. Knowing what to do in these situations is important for everyone’s safety.
Flashing Red Light = Stop Sign
Come to a complete stop, then proceed when it is safe.
Flashing Yellow Light = Proceed with Caution
Slow down and move through the intersection carefully.
Signal Dark / Not Working
Treat the intersection as an all-way stop. Every vehicle must stop and take turns.
In some cases, temporary stop signs may be placed by police or public works when a signal is out for an extended period. These should be treated just like any other stop sign.
Not all drivers may understand these rules, which can make these intersections more dangerous.
Slow down, stay alert, and when in doubt, stop.
