LANSDALE BOROUGH- We weren’t planning on covering this law this week—or maybe ever—but it’s one that not everyone is aware of, especially younger drivers. We also realize many younger drivers aren’t going to see this on our social media so feel free to share this with them.
In Pennsylvania, drivers in a properly formed funeral procession may proceed through red lights and stop signs, as long as the lead vehicle entered the intersection legally. Each vehicle must have headlights and hazard lights on, along with a flag or insignia identifying the procession.
Most drivers don’t intentionally ignore funeral processions—they often just don’t recognize them or know the law. With fewer and smaller processions today, drivers of all ages have less exposure, making it easier to miss or misunderstand what’s happening. Always remain alert, be respectful, and remember that emergency vehicles still have the right-of-way.
So, if you encounter a funeral procession, show some respect and patience—slow down, stay back, and allow the procession to pass safely.
