Everyone loves being nostalgic about growing up in the 1990s, VHS tapes, Pizza Hut, Blockbuster, and the sound of AOL connecting to the internet. Good times. Depending on which forecast you believe, this weekend may feel suspiciously like the blizzard of 1996. Dust off the old Starter Hornets jackets, and don't panic: Manheim Township Police, Public Works, and Manheim Township Fire Rescue are prepared. Emergency services and police operations will not be affected during the storm.
To help our crews work safely and efficiently (and to keep everyone’s blood pressure down), please keep the following in mind:
• Avoid parking on streets, especially in cul-de-sacs. Driveways are your friend. If street parking is unavoidable, please park tight to the curb, so plow trucks can make it through.
• Remove trailers, RVs, and large vehicles from roadways.
• Do not shovel or throw snow back onto the street.
Weather considerations:
• Forecasted snowfall totals currently call for several inches of snow, with very cold temperatures throughout the event.
• Rock salt loses effectiveness below 20°F, so roads may still be icy even after the trucks come through.
Travel Advisory:
Please do not drive unless absolutely necessary. Crews will be working throughout the storm, but large snow events take time to address every roadway. Patience and cooperation go a long way.
The Manheim Township Police Department, along with Public Works and emergency partners, will be operating throughout the storm.
Stay safe. Stay warm. Be Kind. Rewind.
