Two new Officers have joined our K-9 unit recently and we thought it was time that they are properly introduced. After an internal selection process, current Officers Lucas Starsinic and Shane Long were selected to be the handlers for our new patrol dogs.
K-9 Odin is partnered with Officer Starsinic. K-9 Odin is a pure breed Belgian Malinois, 2 years old, from Denmark. He is trained in narcotics detection (area, building, and vehicle) specifically heroin, meth, and cocaine. He is also trained as a patrol dog (tracking, building searches, area searches, article searches, controlled aggression work). Officer Starsinic has been with the department since January of 2016. He has worked in the patrol division and been assigned to both Manheim Township and Lancaster Township sectors. He has spent time as a defensive tactics instructor. Officer Starsinic has had numerous drug-related arrests.
K-9 Zeke is partnered with Officer Long. K-9 Zeke is a Dutch Shepherd born on March 1, 2021. He was brought to the US in April 2022 from the Netherlands. K-9 Zeke was paired with his handler in April 2022 and they completed a five-week training course in May 2022. K9 Zeke is certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association in narcotics detection (Cocaine, Methamphetamine, and Heroin) and patrol functions (controlled aggression, tracking, building searches, article searches, etc.). Officer Long has been employed at Manheim Township Police Department since September 2014 as a patrol officer. He has patrolled both Lancaster Township and Manheim Township sectors since that time. Officer Long and K9 Zeke look forward to using their skill sets to serve the community.
