LEADERS OF FUTURE GENERATIONS GROUP CREATES BILLBOARD TO DETER UNDERAGE DRINKING
The DUI Council of Lancaster County is proud to announce the unveiling of a billboard in Lancaster County created by the group, Leaders of Future Generations. This group, which is affiliated with Compass Mark, has now created four billboards for the council. April, which is Alcohol Awareness Month, is an important time to teach teens about the importance of waiting until they are 21 to drink alcohol. In Lancaster County, 78% of teens have reported that they have not used alcohol within the last 30 days. That leaves 22% that need our help.
These peer leaders who encourage their friends to make good decisions and help them when they fall into situations have chosen to try to make a difference in their Lancaster County community. This year’s billboard uses a great message of “Underage Drinking is Not a Game”. One of the student designers said, “I really think this billboard design is going to stand out to teens, because many of us including myself are involved in social media trends, such as Wordle, which is what inspired this design. I’m hoping that this can make kids my age who turn to drinking as a coping mechanism realize that there’s people who can support them and realize that most teens don’t make drinking a priority.”
This year’s billboard will be at 1340 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603 from 3/30/22 through 4/24/22. In the pictures attached are the student designers and their advisors, Matt Weaver, Ashley Denlinger, and Vanessa Mendez, all from Compass Mark, Eric Kennel, Executive Director of Compass Mark, Tracy Linn, Coordinator for the DUI Council of Lancaster County, and Officer Natalie Littlehale, Community Resource Officer for Manheim Township Police Department.
This billboard design is made possible by a grant from the Lancaster County Drug and Alcohol Commission.
Special thanks to the DUI Council of Lancaster County for this information!
