America: A History of Strength
It was forged in powder smoke, frozen marches, and blood-soaked fields. The patriots who built this country weren’t built for comfort; they were built for war. They were farmers, blacksmiths, sailors, and soldiers who carried muskets, swung axes, rowed warships, and fought to the bitter end.
That same spirit of strength still lives on today.
To celebrate America’s 250th Birthday, the Manheim Township Police Department is hosting a 250lbs Bench Press Challenge at Universal Athletic Club.
The weight is the same for everyone: 250 pounds.
What separates you is the reps.
250 pounds is 250 pounds, one rep or twenty-one plus, you either move it or you don’t. There are no participation trophies.
Participants will earn their place in one of five tiers, each named after patriots who proved their strength when it counted:
John Paul Jones Tier – 1–5 reps
“I have not yet begun to fight.”
Outgunned, outmanned, and dead in the water, Jones lashed his ship to the enemy and fought hand-to-hand until he took it.
Daniel Morgan Tier – 6–10 reps
A backwoods rifleman turned battlefield tactician. Morgan baited elite British troops into a trap at Cowpens and crushed them with discipline and precision.
Anthony Wayne Tier – 11–15 reps
“Mad Anthony.” Known for leading nighttime bayonet charges straight into fortified positions. No hesitation. No backing down.
Peter Francisco Tier – 16–20 reps
The Virginia Giant. A one-man wrecking crew who carried a cannon off the battlefield and tore through enemy lines with a broadsword.
George Washington Tier – 21+ reps
The greatest patriot of all. The man who carried the weight of the revolution on his shoulders.
Each tier will earn a custom award tied to your performance.
Everyone who hits at least 13 reps earns a 3'x5' Betsy Ross flag.
