Retail Theft, False ID to Law Enforcement, Possession of a Controlled Substance Arrest, August 24, 2026, Sunoco (A Plus) Gas Station at 1136 Harrisburg Pk (MT) – James Drury James. M/63, of Lancaster, PA, was charged with the above offenses following a response to a report of a male matching the description of a retail suspect. An officer arrived and met with a witness. The witness stated that on 8/19/26, James, who was seated in the store, stole eight cartons of cigarettes. The witness provided video footage of the incident confirming the suspect was, in fact, James. James was seen, upon the officer’s arrival, seated at the skill game wearing a black and grey backpack. This is the same backpack that is seen in the video footage from the date of the theft. When James sees the police, he walks into the bathroom. After James emerges from the bathroom without the backpack, an officer enters and finds the backpack abandoned under the sink. The backpack is currently empty, but four individual bags containing white powder, suspected to be crack cocaine, were found in the trash can, directly next to the sink. While speaking to James, he provided the officer with a fake name. The officer informed him that this was an official police investigation and he needed to provide his proper identity. James then provided the same name with a different date of birth. James was taken into custody.
A criminal complaint was filed on August 25, 2026. James Drury James was arraigned before MDJ Keller and committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.
