LITITZ BOROUGH - The LBPD is releasing updated information related to the crash that occurred in Downtown Lititz on 07/14/2021, resulting in a loss of power and roadway closure.
On 07/14/2021 around 8:20 AM, LBPD patrol officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of South Broad Street (SR0501) and Juniper Lane, in Downtown Lititz. A box-style truck driven by Timothy J. WRIGHT, age 38, of Columbia, struck a passenger sedan driven by Shane M. COMP, age 48, of Manheim, which standing along the curb near this intersection. Following the impact with the sedan, the box truck continued moving forward until it struck a utility pole and tree. As a result of striking the utility pole, the transformer mounted on the pole fell onto the cab of the box truck.
WRIGHT was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. COMP reported no injury.
The crash investigation determined that the prime factor contributing towards the crash was a brake system failure of the box truck, which preceded the box truck striking COMP's vehicle, the utility pole and the tree.
Because the prime contributing factor is determined to be a vehicle failure, no traffic citations have been filed.
