LITITZ BOROUGH - LBPD Officer Tyler Weinoldt, who is a certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) recently attended the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Impaired Driving & Traffic Safety Conference in San Antonio, TX, which was held August 21-23, 2022.
Traffic safety professionals from around the world shared knowledge about effective and proven approaches for improving roadway safety, the latest science on alcohol and drug impaired driving enforcement, how technology can be leveraged to make communities safer and how agencies can use traffic safety education to build trust with their communities. The IACP Impaired Driving and Traffic Safety Conference (IDTS) is the largest training conference from DREs, law enforcement officers, crash investigators, supervisors/administrators, prosecutors, toxicologists, laboratory personnel, traffic safety professionals and others. Topics included:
- Traffic safety in a contemporary political environment;
- Total quality management for DUI enforcement;
- Preparing law enforcement for automated vehicle technologies;
- Advancing DRE practices;
- Corroboration between DREs, prosecutors and toxicologists;
- Recent NTSB highway crash investigations and the role of law enforcement in the Safe Systems Approach;
- Drunk, drugged, drowsy and distracted driver impacts on incident responders; and
- Traffic safety through data, engineering, education and enforcement.
The LBPD controlled costs associated with registration, travel, lodging and meals through application of grant funding streams.
