LITITZ BOROUGH - Trick-or-treat is tonight from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, rain or shine. If you are driving through Lititz Borough tonight, please do so with caution as trick-or-treaters will be out after sunset in Borough neighborhoods. Please remain alert and be mindful of the following safety tips. Safety is a shared responsibility of trick-or-treaters, parents and motorists. The LBPD wishes everyone a fun, safe and healthy Halloween.
Safety tips for trick-or-treaters:
- Make sure an adult or responsible person supervises children.
- Plan and discuss the route trick-or-treaters will follow and know the names and how to contact those who are supervising your children, if not you.
- Instruct children to only travel in familiar areas and along established routes.
- Set a time for trick-or-treaters to return home.
- Have children stay in groups.
- Never accept a ride in a car.
- Remind children to only visit houses that are well-lit and never enter inside someone’s home.
- Cross only at crosswalks or other safe areas. Never cross the street from behind parked cars.
- Pin a piece of paper with the child’s name, address and your phone number inside a pocket in case they get separated from the group.
- Remember to go over the rules with children who will be venturing out with friends.
- Walk between houses, don’t run.
- Walk on sidewalks, not in the roadway or yards.
- Leave kids’ mobile devices that can be a distraction at home.
Safety tips for drivers:
- Be alert for kids who may enter into the roadway.
- Be alert that the volume of pedestrians adjacent to and crossing streets will be more than usual.
- Use caution when entering and exiting driveways, side streets and alleys.
- Slow down.

- Knives, swords and other accessories should be made from cardboard or flexible materials. Do not allow children to carry sharp objects.
- Bags or sacks carried by youngsters should be light-colored or have reflective material.
