LITITZ BOROUGH – The LBPD has began submitting data into the Pennsylvania Use of Force Data Collection. This data collection is an official Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) data collection program under the auspices of the Pennsylvania UCR Act (Act 180 of 2004). This data collection became mandatory on January 1, 2023.
Additionally, the LBPD has revised its written directive (General Order 4.12.1) to reflect the agency adoption of use of force reporting mandates. This revised written directive is attached to this post for instant public access and review.
The National Use-of-Force Data Collection is a component of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program that is used by law enforcement agencies to report law enforcement use of force that results in fatalities, serious bodily injury to a person, or the discharge of a firearm at or in the direction of a person.
Use of force data is submitted via direct or manual entry into the PAUCRS system. Zero reports and monthly submissions are required. The data collection establishes and provides context to the use of force collection, by providing a total number of police public contacts each month. The data collection is separated into three subcategories; citizen calls for service, officer-initiated contact and court/bailiff activity.
The LBPD has previously provided a UCR public resource page on LititzPD.org, where anyone can utilize a self-service dashboard to view agency-submitted UCR data. To ensure accuracy in the data submitted by the LBPD to the UCR system, the LBPD adheres to quality control checks on the data to ensure validity and adherence to established standards of reporting.
