LITITZ BOROUGH - The LBPD announces the retirement of K9 Nicha, a 9-year-old Belgian Malinois. Nicha's last shift was on August 4, 2026, after serving the Borough of Lititz for the last seven years. K9 Nicha and her partner, Officer Cameron Burke, were recognized by Lititz Borough Council at the October 27, 2026 Council meeting.
Nicha started her career with the LBPD after completing her training in December of 2019. Since that time, Nicha and her handler, Officer Cameron Burke, have been an inseparable team and have been instrumental in keeping Lititz Borough and surrounding communities safe. During her career, Officer Burke and K9 Nicha were responsible for the detection and seizure of illegal and dangerous narcotics to include marijuana, crack cocaine, and methamphetamine. Additionally, they were responsible for tracking and apprehending suspects wanted for burglary, felony warrants, assault involving a weapon, robbery, and escape.
Nicha was also a common presence at many special events in Lititz Borough, where she would interact with community members and provide demonstrations. Nicha's last official action was at the LBPD National Night Out.
The LBPD K9 program was reintroduced in 2019, after the Lititz Community generously donated the costs necessary to restart the program. Nicha was preceded in service by K9 Reky (2004-2010) and K9 Duke (1997-2003).
Nicha will spend her retirement living with Officer Burke and the family she has known and love her entire life.
The LBPD wishes Nicha a retirement filled with rest, comfort, and the rewards she deserves.
