LITITZ BOROUGH - The LBPD patrol function took a 15 year-old Warwick High School student into custody today following a reported explosives threat at Warwick High School. On April 26, 2022 around 8:37 AM, the LBPD responded to the Warwick High School after receiving a report by the Warwick School District regarding a student with a possible explosive device in their backpack. A student communicated a message on social media that they had a "bomb" and it would go off in 5 minutes. Another student viewed this message and immediately contacted a District staff member.
The District immediately notified the LBPD and an immediate and cooperative response between the District and the LBPD was initiated to ensure the safety of students, staff and the campus. The high school was placed on a lock-down during the investigation of the threat. The student who communicated the threat was quickly detained and it was verified that there was not an explosive device in their backpack. The student was taken into custody by the LBPD and removed from the school property. Consultation with the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office and the Office of Juvenile Probation was performed related to charging decisions and procedural actions.
The student, identified as a 15 year-old student of the high school, was subsquently released to their parents with charges filed with the Office of Juvenile Probation. The student has been charged, alleging the commission of the following crimes: Terroristic Threats; and Threat to Use Weapons of Mass Destruction.
It should be emphasized that at no time, was any student, staff member or campus in danger during the course of this investigation.
