The Lancaster Township Police Department is proud to support the 7th Annual National Slam the Scam Day, a nationwide initiative led by the Social Security Administration’s Office of the Inspector General to help protect our community from evolving scams.
Criminals continue to adapt their tactics—using phone calls, texts, emails, social media, and even fake government documents to trick people into giving up personal information or money. As scammers get more sophisticated, our best defense is awareness.
Here’s how you can protect yourself and your loved ones:
• Know the signs. Government agencies will never threaten arrest, demand immediate payment, or request gift cards or cryptocurrency.
• Slow down and verify. If something feels off, hang up or ignore the message. Contact the agency directly using a trusted number.
• Guard your personal information. Never share your Social Security number, bank details, or passwords with unexpected callers or messages.
• Report suspicious activity. Your reports help stop scammers and protect others in the community.
We’re committed to working alongside our federal partners to keep Lancaster Township residents informed and safe. Together, we can slam the scam and stay one step ahead of fraudsters.
