The Central Pennsylvania Weather Forecast Office has issued a Dangerous Heat Advisory for Wednesday 8/11/21 and Thursday 8/12/21, forecasting high temperatures in the mid-90s and a maximum heat index possibly in excess of 105°F on Thursday afternoon.
Strong thunderstorms with marginally severe wind gusts are possible during the afternoon and evening today (8/10/21) through Thursday (8/12/21).
There is an increased risk of heat-related illness, especially for children, the elderly and people with pre-existing health conditions.
Prevent Heat-Related Illness by:
Wearing loose-fitting lightweight clothing
Protect against sunburn
Drink plenty of fluids
Never leave anyone in a parked vehicle
Take it easy during the hottest parts of the day
Symptoms of heat exhaustion (may develop suddenly or over time):
Cool, moist skin with goose bumps when in the heat
Heavy sweating
Faintness
Dizziness
Fatigue/Weakness
Rapid pulse
Low blood pressure upon standing
Muscle cramps
Nausea
Headache
If you think you're experiencing heat exhaustion:
Stop all activity and rest
Move to a cooler place
Drink cool water or sports drinks
Contact your doctor if your signs or symptoms worsen or if they don't improve within one hour.
