The Derry Township Police Department is currently accepting applications for Part-Time Community Service Officer positions.
Qualifications
- Must be a United States citizen and 18 years of age or older.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License. Out of state applicants must obtain a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License within 60 days of hire.
- Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be well organized with strong verbal skills, good penmanship, computer knowledge, have the aptitude to make quick decisions and be able to think independently as well as follow orders.
- Must conform to Derry Township Police Department General Order 26.3 regarding Appearance & Grooming at the time hire.
- Upon hire, Community Service Officers must complete a minimum one-year probationary training period.
Duties
Community Service Officers perform quasi-police duties to include traffic direction, animal control, park patrol, enforcement of local ordinances, parking enforcement, motorist assists, and arrest processings.
Successful candidates shall be available to work various scheduled shifts throughout the day and night, including weekends and holidays. Most shifts will be 8 hours with no overnight shifts. There are no guaranteed minimum number of hours in any given time period.

This position’s starting wage is $16.21 per hour and paid vacation can be earned. This is a challenging and rewarding position working with the police department in a civilian capacity and is a great opportunity for college students and others looking to gain experience in the law enforcement field.
Finalists will undergo a thorough background investigation to include criminal history, driving record check, and medical testing.
