Important Community Notification: Door-to-Door Canvassing in Derry Township
The Derry Township Police Department would like to inform the community that Mercury Opinion, a DBA of Working America, AFL-CIO, will be conducting a door-to-door canvass in our area starting on January 21, 2026.
The purpose of this notification is to ensure the safety of our community and the canvassers and to provide our community with information about Working America's activities.
Working America is a non-profit 501(c)(5) labor organization that focuses on education, legislative, and political advocacy to support issues important to working families, such as good jobs, education, living wages, secure pensions, affordable healthcare, and retirement security. Their canvassers are professionally trained and will carry picture identification cards and wear red safety vests displaying their affiliation with Working America.
The goal of their membership drive is to educate working people about issues that affect them, sign up new members, and receive voluntary dues. Please note that their organizers will not sell any products or solicit funds. Canvassing typically takes place in the late afternoon and evening, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Their organizers do not sell any kind of products, nor will they attempt to solicit any funds, and therefor precludes the need for a soliciting permit. It is recommended, if and when contacted by one of their canvassers, to ask to see their identification. As a reminder, for your safety, never invite people conducting canvassing or soliciting activities into your home. If there are concerns about the conduct or behavior of any of the people conducting the canvassing, please contact the Derry Township Police Department at (717) 534-2202 or by using the Contact Us tab on our Crimewatch page.
