Distinguished Unit Award
The Derry Township Police Department is proud to recognize the exceptional efforts of its officers and investigators in solving a hit-and-run pedestrian crash that occurred on October 6, 2024, near the intersection of Park Avenue and East Derry Road.
Sgt. Eckenrode demonstrated outstanding leadership as the first responder on the scene, expertly coordinating the response efforts of shift officers, the Criminal Investigation Unit, and Administration. Despite the initial lack of identification of the suspect driver, the Criminal Investigation Section (Det. Sgt. Jason Rode, Det. Tom Pavone, Det. David Rode, Det. Andrew Herr, Det. Peter Fure, and Investigator Kevin Leiss) persevered, dedicating countless hours to reviewing video surveillance footage, pursuing leads, and collaborating with State and Federal law enforcement agencies.
Their tireless efforts ultimately led to the identification and apprehension of the suspect in Tennessee, resulting in charges being filed. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication, expertise, and teamwork of the Derry Township Police Department's officers and investigators.
This Distinguished Unit Award honors the outstanding service and commitment to justice demonstrated by the members of the Derry Township Police Department involved in this investigation.
