The Derry Township Police Department took Efrain Valentin, Jr., Hummelstown, PA into custody near the Karns Food Store on Cherry Drive in Hershey at about 10:46 am this date. Police had been actively looking for Valentin after he was reported missing by family. There was also an active arrest warrant for Valentin out of the Dauphin County Sheriff's Office because Valentin had failed to appear for a scheduled court date. Valentin was spotted along a walking path on the south side of West Governor Road and disappeared from view behind a building. He was later spotted by a Derry Township Officer at the Karns Food Store on Cherry Drive. When the officer attempted to identify Valentin, he began walking away. As other officers arrived, the officer who initially approached Valentin attempted to stop him. Valentin produced a knife and threatened the officer and arriving officers with it. The officer used his Taser and after some resistance, officers were able to take Valentin into custody. He is being charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Simple Assault, Fight to Avoid Apprehension, Trial, or Punishment, Possession of a Small Amount of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Police advised the Kindercare Learning Center, next to the Karns Food Store, to take their students inside and lockdown their facility due to their proximity to police actively attempting to take Valentin into custody. The Kindercare Learning Center was locked down for approximately 4-5 minutes before they were cleared from the lockdown.
