Aggravated Animal Cruelty, Neglect of Animals, and Cruelty to Animals
On August 19, 2025, at approximately 9:09 pm, Officers from Derry Township Police Department responded to a report of suspected animal abuse or neglect at the Hershey Animal Emergency Center. Upon arrival, a 2026 GMC Savana U-Haul van was found in the parking lot, containing a large number of animals in the back and front compartments without access to water. The vehicle was occupied, and the inside was littered with animals, luggage, and food, emitting a strong animal odor.
The driver, SELMA KIZIL, claimed to be transporting rescue animals from New York to Oklahoma City. However, an investigation revealed that the animals were subjected to inhumane conditions, resulting in serious bodily injury to one canine, which was subsequently euthanized due to the severity of its injuries.
In total, 17 dogs, 13 cats, 12 birds, 1 duck, 1 rabbit, and 1 fish were found in the van. It is believed that the conditions inside the van caused the canine's injury. As a result, SELMA KIZIL was charged with Aggravated Animal Cruelty, Neglect of Animals, and Cruelty to Animals.
All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
