Newtown Township, Pa – Chief Hearn was sworn in last evening, February 27, 2019, at the Newtown Township Board of Supervisor’s Meeting. The room was at full capacity with our department’s civilian and sworn personnel. Also in attendance were Chief Hearn’s family, friends and officers from the Philadelphia Police Department, as well as other local area police departments. It truly was an impressive showing of support from the law enforcement community.
Interim Police Chief, Lieutenant Jason Harris addressed the room, providing the current status of the police department that he led for the last eight months. He gave praise to the department and the officers for the team effort that helped lead to a successful transition to the swearing in of Chief Hearn. It was an appropriate lead in before the introduction of Chief Hearn who was then sworn in by Magisterial District Justice Mick Petrucci. Chief Hearn addressed the room with an inspiring and uplifting message and expressed his appreciation for this opportunity and the people who supported him along the way.
Throughout Chief Hearn’s 30 year career with the City of Philadelphia, he has demonstrated a well-known passion for protecting and serving the communities that he was assigned to as he rose to the rank of Captain. Chief Hearn has an undisputed talent as a police officer and commander and is well versed in all aspects of emergency services. People have used words like integrity, collaborator, strong leader and visionary to describe Chief Hearn.
Chief Hearn is a graduate of Holy Family University, the FBI National Academy, Northwestern University and lives locally with his family. Chief Hearn's career accomplishments and commendations are extensive and we are confident that he was the right choice for the department and our community.
