Borough of Shippensburg Secures Federal Appropriations Funding for New Police Equipment
Shippensburg Borough, Cumberland and Franklin counties — The Borough of Shippensburg has secured $298,127 in federal Community Project Funding appropriations to upgrade critical police equipment for the Shippensburg Police Department.
Funding will be used for much needed upgrades to equipment the police department uses which is reaching the end of its useful life. Upgrades will include a police cruiser, body-worn cameras, vehicle cameras, and a new camera system for the department’s interview room.
“These upgrades will support safer responses, strengthen transparency, and help officers do their jobs effectively.” Said Shaun Rogers, Mayor of Shippensburg Borough “These improvements were made possible through the generous support of Senator Dave McCormick, Senator John Fetterman, and Representative John Joyce.”
The project was approved under the Commerce, Justice, Science appropriations bill to the Byrne Justice Assistance Grants program administered through the Office of Justice Programs. Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending is a tool that allows communities like Shippensburg to request funds for targeted, high-impact public-safety projects from their elected officials.
