Our department is proud to participate in the Blue Envelope Program, a safety initiative designed to help individuals on the autism spectrum or those who may face communication challenges during interactions with law enforcement. The Blue Envelope provides officers with an immediate signal that a driver may have unique communication needs.
Here’s how it works:
🔹 Drivers can keep important documents such as their license, registration, insurance card, and emergency contact information inside a blue envelope.
🔹 The envelope alerts officers that the driver may have communication differences or needs extra support during the interaction.
🔹 This helps both the driver and officer by creating a safer, calmer, and more understanding exchange.
Traffic stops and other encounters with law enforcement can sometimes feel stressful or overwhelming. The Blue Envelope helps create more positive interactions by providing officers with important information immediately. We encourage families, caregivers, and residents who could benefit from this program to stop by and pick up a Blue Envelope. Together, we can build stronger connections and ensure that every member of our community feels understood and supported.
