🅿️📢 Parking Garage Access & Payment: What You Need to Know 📢🅿️

The Kennett Square Police Department receives many calls for service from individuals having difficulty exiting the parking garage. Because of this, we wanted to share a few simple steps and helpful tips to hopefully make the parking garage process easier for everyone.

Whether you're using the garage with a parking permit or parking for the day, following these instructions can help ensure a smooth entry and exit.

QR Barcode Permit

Using your QR barcode is simple:

  1. Entering the garage: Hold your QR barcode in front of the reader at the entry gate. The gate will raise and allow you to enter.
  2. Exiting the garage: Hold your QR barcode in front of the reader at the exit gate. The gate will raise and allow you to exit.
  3. One vehicle per entry: The QR barcode can only be scanned once per entry cycle. Permit holders may not scan their barcode multiple times to allow additional vehicles to enter behind them.
  4. Unlimited use: The individual permit holder may enter and exit the garage as many times as needed. However, only one vehicle may enter per entry/exit cycle.

Permit Card

Using your permit card is just as easy:

  1. Entering the garage: Swipe your permit card in front of the card reader at the entry gate. The gate will raise, allowing you to enter.
  2. Exiting the garage: Swipe your permit card in front of the card reader at the exit gate. The gate will raise and allow you to exit.
  3. One vehicle per entry: The permit card can only be swiped once per entry cycle. Permit holders may not swipe their card multiple times to allow additional vehicles to enter behind them.
  4. Unlimited use: Permit holders have access to the garage 24 hours a day, with no additional use fee.
  5. Lost or stolen cards: A replacement fee of $25 will apply for a lost or stolen permit card.

Everyday Parking — No Permit Required

If you're parking in the garage without a parking permit, simply follow these steps:

  1. Entering the garage: Proceed to the garage entrance and press the button on the screen to receive a parking ticket.
  2. Park your vehicle: Proceed into the garage and find an available parking space.
  3. When you're ready to leave: You have two payment options:
    • Pay by smartphone: Scan the barcode on your parking ticket with your smartphone and follow the prompts to pay.
    • Pay at the exit: Proceed to the exit gate and scan your ticket at the exit reader.

Having Trouble Scanning Your Ticket at the Exit?

This is where people have the most trouble, but there is an easy trick!

Hold your parking ticket approximately 6–9 inches below the scan area until you see a red X appear across the barcode. This indicates that the ticket is being scanned.

Once your ticket is scanned:

  • The amount due will appear on the screen.
  • You can pay using a credit card or cash.
  • Once payment is complete, the gate arm will rise.
  • Proceed out of the parking garage.

Need Help at the Garage?

If you need help at the parking garage gates Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, please press the Help button on the screen.

If you need help at the parking garage gates after hours, on weekends, or on holidays, please call 610-268-3171 to speak with a police dispatcher and request that an officer be dispatched to the parking garage at 100 E. Linden Street, Kennett Square Borough.

Important Reminder

Whether you're using a permit or paying for everyday parking, please allow only one vehicle per entry cycle. Permit holders should not scan or swipe their permit more than once to allow additional vehicles to enter behind them.

We hope these tips help make using the parking garage a little easier. If you know someone who uses the garage, please share this information with them!
