In April 2021, the Kennett Square Police Department initiated an investigation into the suspected drug distribution activities in the 700 block of Wayne Avenue after receiving numerous complaints from residents in the area. As a result of the investigation and complaints received, a search warrant was issued by Magisterial District Court 15-3-04 to search the property. 

On May 22, 2021, Officers executed the search warrant at 707 Wayne Avenue for controlled substances (drugs) and evidence of distribution and intent to distribute these substances. As a result of that warrant execution, over 1.25 pounds of marijuana was recovered along with a large amount of US currency and an abundance of drug paraphernalia. The resident and target of the investigation was identified as Cristian Padilla. Investigation determined that in addition to the street level drugs, Padilla was utilizing his medical marijuana patient status to acquire and distribute medical marijuana to his customers. 

On June 7, 2021, an arrest warrant was issued for Padilla. He reported to District Court 15-3-04 and was arraigned on the charges on June 8 by Judge Iacocca. Bail was set at $100,000/Unsecured and he was released pending further scheduled legal action.
