Newtown Township, Pa - On February 28, 2020, the Newtown Township Police Department received numerous reports of thefts from vehicles that had occurred during the early morning hours. Through surveillance video, it was determined that the same individual was involved in more than 15 reported thefts from that night and had entered countless unlocked vehicles. A follow-up investigation revealed that the same individual had been stealing from unlocked vehicles dating back to as early as September of 2019. A law enforcement task force was formed after learning that similar thefts were taking place throughout Bucks County and New Jersey. Municipalities continued experiencing thefts from Yardley Borough to Hilltown Township. The suspect returned to Newtown Township during the early morning hours of April 17th and August 12th and both Wrightstown and Newtown Townships on August 24th. During the investigation, it was learned that the suspect would often travel long distances on foot and avoid detection by both residents and law enforcement.
With the help from many law enforcement agencies throughout PA and NJ, 33-year-old Keith Johnson (Yardley, PA), was taken into custody on Friday, March 5th in connection to more than 1000 thefts. During his arrest, numerous items were recovered including purses, gift cards, and other personal property.
