Newtown, Pa - Stephen Meyers began his law enforcement career with the Newtown Township Police Department on September 10, 1979, and officially retired at the rank of Sergeant on February 28, 2020, after dedicating forty years of service to the department.
After being hired by Chief Duffy and then graduating from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in April 1980, Meyers was promoted to the rank of Corporal in 1989.
Meyers was later promoted to Sergeant and graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1997.
In addition to his other duties, Sergeant Meyers served the community as a D.A.R.E. Program instructor and a T.E.A.M. Program instructor for several years, frequently speaking to and developing a positive rapport with the students and faculty of the Council Rock School District. A strong proponent of community policing, Sergeant Meyers received numerous letters of thanks and praise from residents and business owners as well.
The year 2019 marked Stephen Meyers’ 40th year as a sworn police officer with Newtown Township Police Department, and on October 9, 2019, the Board of Supervisors of Newtown Township and Chief Hearn honored Meyers for his dedication in keeping Newtown Township safer and for his hard work and years of service to the police department.
On March 11, 2020, the Board of Supervisors ceremoniously recognized Sergeant Stephen Meyers at their meeting and presented him with a plaque by Chief Hearn on Behalf of Newtown Township for his retirement.
Stephen Meyers has been an exemplary member of this department. We thank him for his service and wish him a long and happy retirement!
