Based on continued requests for information from the public and media outlets, the Newtown Township Police Department is providing the following community information regarding the department’s involvement with the active FBI investigation into the events that occurred in New York City on Saturday March 7, 2026 at approximately 12:15pm.
On Saturday evening March 7th, the Newtown Township Police received a report of a missing person who resided within our township. That individual was listed as Ibrahim Kayumi, a 19-year-old male who was last reportedly seen earlier in the morning by a family member. After speaking with family, Newtown Township Police left the residence and began investigating Kayumi’s whereabouts including his unaccounted for 2010 Honda. During our initial police investigation, Newtown Township Police was contacted by an FBI agent who provided some details about the active New York City bombing investigation which had taken place earlier in the day; specifically confirming the custody of Ibrahim Kayumi and verifying his home address.
On Sunday March 8th, Newtown Township Police continued to communicate & coordinate with FBI personnel and assisted them regarding the property located on Clymer Street near Stoopville Road within Newtown Township, while Middletown Police simultaneously assisted other FBI agents regarding a property located in Middletown Township, which was home to the 2nd suspect also in custody. A search warrant obtained through the US Attorney’s Office for the Clymer Street address was served later that evening. During this search warrant, there were no reported injuries or physical arrests made at that location.
On Monday morning March 9th just past midnight, Newtown Township Police and FBI responded to the Anchor Shopping Center in the 800 block of Durham Road, Wrightstown township, where the vehicle owned by Ibrahim Kayumi was located. For community safety, the lot was secured and an explosive K9 unit was dispatched. Upon arrival, the police ordinance K9 alerted for potential explosives or bomb making material inside the vehicle, and the Philadelphia Police Bomb squad as part of the Joint Terrorism Task Force, were requested, along with Lingohocken Fire Department Central Bucks Ambulance which were requested for standby. After several hours, the vehicle was eventually cleared of any explosives or devices present capable of causing any injures and the vehicle was towed and impounded for further investigation. The lot was cleared; all operations and road closures were resumed.
At this point, there is no additional belief or communications with the FBI that indicate a continued threat to this area. Our agency will continue to assist and respond accordingly to ensure the safety & security of our community.
