NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP OFFICERS COMPLETE CIT TRAINING
Newtown Township, PA - This week, as part of our ongoing commitment to better serving our community, Officers Snowden and Chirik successfully completed Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training.
CIT is an innovative, nationally recognized program that prepares law enforcement officers to safely and effectively respond to individuals experiencing mental health crises, substance use disorders, and related behavioral health challenges. Through specialized training, officers learn to recognize signs of psychiatric distress, utilize proven de-escalation techniques, and connect individuals with appropriate community resources and treatment whenever possible.
Research has consistently shown that CIT training helps reduce arrests, the use of force and restraints, injuries to both officers and community members, and unnecessary hospitalizations, while improving outcomes and enhancing public safety for everyone involved.
