The Town of Crawford Police Department provides School Resource Officers (SRO) to the Pine Bush Central School District (https://www.pinebushschools.org/) and the Chapel Field Christian Schools(https://www.chapelfield.org/). This is a collaborative effort between the Town of Crawford and these educational institutions.
What is a School Resource Officer (SRO)?
SRO is a sworn Town of Crawford Police Officers who responsible for safety of the school building and crime prevention in and around the school building.
What are their responsibilities?
The responsibilities of SROs are similar to regular police officers in that they respond to calls for service, document incidents that occur within their schools, and have the ability to make arrests. SROs work in collaboration with schools and community-based organizations to provide a positive and visible law enforcement presence on school campus.
SRO have three main responsibilities:
Educator:
SROs teach students about crime prevention and safety, drug awareness, conflict resolution, and other topics related to law enforcement and the legal system.
Informal Counselor:
SROs build relationships with students and act as liaisons to community services for youth and families.
Law Enforcement:
SROs address crime and disorder in and around school campus.
SRO involvement:
Open house, Trunk or Treat, School dances, PTA events, Homecoming, Sporting events, Thanksgiving food drive, Holiday Food drive, MOCK DWI Drill, and then list goes on…
