The Town of Brighton Police Department is pleased to announce the successful completion of its pledge to enhance trust, transparency, and collaboration between the police and the community. This pledge is part of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Trust Building Campaign, an initiative launched by the world’s largest and most influential professional association for police leaders. To participate in the Campaign, law enforcement agencies commit to implementing 25 key policies and leading practices within a 36-month time frame.
Chief David Catholdi decided to join the Trust Building Campaign to “ensure our philosophy of community-oriented policing is aligned with nationally recognized best practices. The greatest benefit to our agency is to demonstrate that we view our partnership with the community we serve as paramount to our mutual success.”
By completing the Trust Building Campaign pledge, the Town of Brighton Police Department implemented policies, training, assessments, and strategies across six critical focus areas: bias-free policing; use of force; leadership and culture; recruitment, hiring, and retention; victim services; and community relations. These efforts were designed to strengthen positive community-police partnerships, promote safe and effective interactions, reduce and prevent crime, and improve the overall quality of life for all residents.
The IACP has expressed strong support for agencies that adopt these trust-focused principles into their daily operations. When trust building is prioritized, both the community and law enforcement benefit from relationships grounded in shared values, goals, and a unified vision. Building and maintaining trust locally and globally remains essential—and must continue to be a primary objective for all police organizations.
