On June 5, 2026, members of the Brighton Police Department and the community gathered together to recognize the outstanding work of the members of the department, and the community, during our annual award ceremony.
A Life Saving award was presented to Officer Joice Barcellos, John Ward, and Melanie Ward whose combined efforts helped to save the life of Timothy Cargill who collapsed on the side of the road after suffering a major heart attack.
Excellent Police Service awards were presented to Lieutenant Keith Woodard and Officer Joseph LaBarbera for their efforts in capturing a suspect involved in the armed theft of a vehicle.
An additional Excellent Police Service award was presented to Sergeant Stephen Hunt for his investigative efforts into a vehicle insurance issue that resulted in the arrest of a conman who was pretending to be a doctor in order to obtain and distribute controlled substances.
Sergeant Stephen Hunt was also awarded our first Officer of the Year award in recognition of his leadership, mentorship, dedication, professionalism, and desire to help elevate the performance of others.
Thank you to these officers, and all our officers, for their exemplary work each and every day that helps make Brighton a great place to live, work, and visit. We look forward to your continued efforts in the years to come.
