Saranac Lake Police Department has received several inquiries about the investigation into the homicide suspect possibly being in the Adirondacks. At this time the focus of that investigation is north of Saranac Lake in the Paul Smiths/Gabriels area. Residents are asked to still remain vigilant and contact Police with any information or signs of suspicious behavior. Below is information from the most recent State Police press release.
*State Police and Cohoes Police Investigating Homicide, Suspect at Large
The New York State Police, in coordination with the Cohoes Police Department, are actively investigating a homicide that occurred on Earl Lynn Court in Cohoes, New York, on September 14, 2025.
Investigators advise the public that the suspect, Anthony G. Bechand, age 53, remains at large and may be armed and dangerous.
Bechand is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair. His clothing description is unknown. He is believed to have been traveling in a white 2024 Chevrolet Silverado.
That vehicle was located earlier today, September 14, 2025, on County Route 60 at the intersection of County Route 86 in the Town of Brighton, Franklin County.
Anyone who has seen Bechand or has information about his whereabouts is urged to contact the New York State Police at 518-897-2000. Do not approach him. Your assistance is vital as this investigation continues.
