Cybercriminals and organized fraud groups have rapidly evolved their tactics in recent years—especially since COVID-19. These scams are increasingly sophisticated and often target vulnerable individuals, including seniors.
Be on the lookout for:
• Phone scams pretending to be family members, government agencies, or tech support
• Email and text phishing asking for personal information or urgent payments
• Online marketplace scams involving fake listings or fraudulent buyers
• Romance and relationship scams that build trust before requesting money
• Financial and investment schemes promising unrealistic returns
• Bitcoin & cryptocurrency scams asking for crypto payments, “too good to be true” investments, or payment for services in Bitcoin
Stay Safe:
• Never share personal or financial information — or cryptocurrency-wallet info — with unverified sources
• Hang up on suspicious calls
• Avoid clicking unknown links or attachments
• Verify identities before sending money, gift cards, or crypto
• Trust your instincts — if something feels off, it probably is
