Public Safety Announcement: Protect Yourself from Jury Duty Scams

The Gray County Sheriff's Office wants to alert citizens to a common scam targeting residents: jury duty scams. Scammers are using fear and intimidation to trick victims into revealing sensitive information or making fraudulent payments.

Here's how the scam typically works:

• Scammers call or email, claiming to be from the court or sheriff's office, stating that you've missed jury duty and a warrant has been issued for your arrest.
• The scammer demands that you provide personal information, such as your Social Security number, date of birth, or financial information, to "clear up the matter."
• In some cases, the scammer may request that you make a payment to avoid arrest or fines.

Important: The Gray County Sheriff's Office and the Gray County District Court will never contact you and ask for personal information or payment over the phone or via email. If you're summoned for jury duty, you'll receive an official notice in the mail with instructions on how to proceed.

To protect yourself from these scams:
