Village officials have received several inquiries about reported immigration enforcement activity by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Summit. We are sharing this message to clarify the role of the Summit Police Department.
Immigration enforcement is the jurisdiction of federal authorities, and local law enforcement’s involvement is regulated by the Illinois TRUST Act. Our police department, by law, cannot assist with immigration enforcement activity and does not receive notification when ICE officers are going to be in Summit.
The Summit Police Department is committed to providing police services to all members of our community. SPD’s primary responsibility is enforcing criminal laws, and our officers remain dedicated to that mission. Our officers do not ask about people’s immigration status.

Questions about ICE activity should be directed to federal agencies.
