The Summit police department is participating in the Cook County Sheriffs, Co-Responder Virtual Assistance Program. This program is a resource that Summit officers could utilize to connect persons with a clinician for a variety of reasons. If a person is in crisis, suffering from substance abuse or needs someone who could assist them with mental health matters, they could speak with a qualified person from the CCSPD Treatment Response Team (TRT). If an officer recognizes someone who could benefit from these services, the officer could connect the individual with a clinician via a Zoom meeting with the use of a tablet. This could be done on scene when the person most needs to speak to someone. If the person does not wish to speak to someone at that time, the officer can provide a contact number so the individual can call at a time of their choosing. TRT clinicians are on duty 24 hours a day for easy access by those in need.
This is an additional tool that our officers can use to help connect someone in need with assistance in a timely manner. More information can be found at the link provided below with the Cook County Sheriff's Office. If anyone has any questions regarding this resource, please speak with a Summit officer.
