The Summit Police Department would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and ask that you celebrate responsibly. If you plan on drinking or consuming other legal substances, please do not drive or have a designated driver. Impaired driving can have devastating consequences not only for the driver but for the occupants, other motorists, pedestrians and loved ones. Happy New Year to all the residents of the Village of Summit.
This sweet girl was found wandering Archer Rd. last night. She is wearing a pink sweater and red collar, does not appear to be chipped. If you are the owner or know the owner you can contact the Summit police department. We would like to reunite her with her family, she is pretty sad and obviously missing home. We can only hold her here temporarily as we do not have the facilities for long term. Thank you for your assistance.
With the cold weather, slippery conditions exist on all roadways. IDOT and the Village are doing what they can to mitigate the conditions, but we ask that everyone exercise due care while driving. If you do not have to be out, try to avoid driving to be safe. Special attention to areas like 63rd Street and Archer Rd. at the viaduct due to its grade should be taken. IDOT is being asked to salt some more to avoid further crashes, but your cooperation is appreciated. Let's all be safe.
“Driving safely in winter weather can be a challenge for even the most experienced driver. It’s easy to forget after months of mild conditions that snow and ice demand careful driving and special preparation for your vehicle. Before heading out, know the weather and traffic conditions and give yourself more time to get where you’re going because you’ll be driving more slowly in inclement weather.”
