Prank calls to 911 may seem like harmless fun, but they carry serious consequences for individuals and for the safety of our entire community.   

When officers respond "code" with lights and sirens, they are moving quickly through town. Every response increases the risk of accidents, especially for other drivers and pedestrians. False reports also cause unnecessary fear and confusion in Cortez, when scanner traffic spreads partial or misleading information before facts are confirmed.

Please remember to call or text 911 only for true emergencies, talk with your children and teens about how and when to use 911, and listen to scanner reports responsibly.
