Shawn Dashen, 48, of Trinidad was arrested on February 5, 2025, for manslaughter of an at-risk adult. The charges stem from an incident on December 21, 2024 that was originally believed to be a medical call. The Trinidad Communication Center received a call about a person needing medical attention on the 300 block of Church Street who later succumbed to their injuries.

Trinidad Police Department Detectives were contacted by the Las Animas County Coroner to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. Detectives watched City surveillance video and conducted an investigation that led to the identity of the suspect.

Dashen is currently being held at the Las Animas County Detention Center on a $20,000 cash only bond. He faces the following charges: Manslaughter, a class 4 felony and Crimes Against an At-Risk Adult, a class 4 felony.
