UPDATE (2:35 PM) - The River Bottom Fire is 100% contained. It burned 9 acres. There may still be some smoke in the area and some hot spots. All resources have been released.
UPDATE (April 13, 2022 - 10:20 AM) - Fire resources are back out on the River Bottom Fire. There will be smoke in the area as they continue to mop up operations. Please refrain from calling 911 for smoke in the area of the Village East mobile home park and behind the power plant.
UPDATE (8:20 PM) - The River Bottom Fire is 30% contained at this time. Mutual aid resources will be released from the scene at 9 pm tonight and will return at 7 am tomorrow to finish constructing fire lines and mop up the fire. The Trinidad Fire Department will continue to monitor the area throughout the night. While the evacuation has been lifted, residents in the area are urged to remain aware if conditions change.
UPDATE (8:04 PM) - The evacuation has been lifted and residents can return to their homes.
UPDATE (6:10 PM) - The pre-evacuation status for the Village East mobile home park is now upgraded to mandatory evacuation. The fire is moving east and has grown to 10 acres and fire line has been cut east of the fire in an attempt to contain it in the river bottom.
UPDATE (5:56 PM) - The fire is 20% contained at this time. Approximately 5 acres along with river bottom have burned. The pre-evacuation for Village East is still in affect.
UPDATE (4:43 PM) - The Village East mobile home park is under pre-evacuation (voluntary evacuation) notice. The Trinidad Community Center is set up as a shelter at this time.
The Trinidad Fire Department with the assistance of the Hoehne and Fisher's Peak volunteer fire departments are fighting a grass fire near the Hwy 160/350 bypass. The fire is between the BNSF railroad and the highway. The Kit Carson bypass from Main Street to Freedom Road are temporarily closed.
