Dealing in Proceeds of Unlawful Activities, Theft by Unlawful Taking Warrant, September 21, 2026, 400 block of Parkwynne Rd (MT) – Alontaye Warez Lewis, M/29, of Detroit, MI, was charged with the above offenses. On April 4, 2026, a victim (Victim 1) reported that a check was written from their bank account and mailed for delivery. The check was stolen in transit and altered to be paid to a second victim (Victim 2), then deposited into an account in Victim 2's name.  Victim 1 did not know Victim 2, nor did Victim 1 send a check to Victim 2. Victim 2 reported that this account was fraudulently opened in their name, and they did not authorize or open this account. Victim 2 resides in New York, and the account ownership information listed an address in Michigan. Victim 2 denied any connection with this address. The stolen check was deposited, and five ATM withdrawals totaling $1,140 occurred. Video surveillance footage captured the ATM transactions and the vehicle used by the male withdrawing the funds from the fraudulently opened account. An officer obtained Alontaye Lewis’s driver’s license and identified Lewis as the male withdrawing funds from the ATM. Victim 1 and Victim 2 did not know Lewis, nor did they authorize, permit, or write any checks to Lewis to be deposited into this fraudulently opened account.

A criminal complaint was filed, and an arrest warrant was obtained. Alontaye Warez Lewis remains a wanted person at this time.
