In a clash of local First Responders, Saugertiesians will undoubtedly be talking about for at least the next few days, the Saugerties Police Department emerged victorious over the Saugerties Fire Department in the 2nd Annual Battle of the Badges flag football game.
The high-stakes gridiron matchup of flags, held this past Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the Saugerties Jr./Sr. High School, saw us Boys in Blue edge out the Bravest with a final score of 21-14.
The weather was absolutely perfect, which was a massive concern for the Fire Department, who historically prefers to operate in conditions a bit more wet.
The game was carried out with tactical precision, when we deployed a defense that drivers would be described as a "speed trap on Route 9W." We managed to intercept multiple passes, effectively issuing moving violations to the Fire Department's wide receivers. On the other hand, the fire department attempted a brilliant "stop, drop, and roll" maneuver on third down, but unfortunately they dropped a little too soon, resulting in a loss of yards.
Ultimately, our offense proved too arresting, locking down the 21-14 victory before the Saugerties Fire Department could mount a meaningful comeback.
With the trophy safely in our hands, we heard the Fire Department has already begun training for 2027 by practicing in full turnout gear and their "we'll get 'em next time" faces in the firehouse mirrors.
