The Lancaster Township Police Department is seeking highly qualified applicants for full-time Police Officer positions, including both certified officers and non-certified candidates.

Established in 2025, the department serves approximately 18,500 residents across six square miles. This is a unique opportunity to join a newly formed police department and contribute to the development of a professional, community-focused law enforcement agency. The Township offers a supportive environment with a strong commitment to public service.

Patrol officers typically work 12-hour shifts with every other weekend off.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Structure

Non-Certified Candidates

• $66,950 salary while attending the police academy
• Increased to $77,250 upon successful completion of Act 120 certification and appointment as a full-time officer
• Tuition for the Municipal Police Academy is paid by Lancaster Township for selected candidates

Certified Officers

• Less than one (1) year of qualifying experience: $77,250
• More than one (1) year but less than three (3) years: $84,460
• More than three (3) years: $94,760

General Requirements

Applicants are not required to possess Act 120 certification at the time of application but must meet the following:

• Must be a citizen of the United States
• Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application
• Must possess a High School Diploma or GED
• Must meet one of the following:
  • Currently Act 120 certified
  • Enrolled in an Act 120 program
  • Eligible for immediate certification through MPOETC
• Must be physically and mentally capable of performing the essential functions of a police officer
• Must possess a valid driver’s license

Selection Process

Candidates selected to proceed in the hiring process will be required to:

• Complete an oral examination
• Undergo a comprehensive background investigation, including:
  • Criminal history
  • Driving record
  • Financial and credit history
  • Employment history
  • Military service, if applicable
  • Educational background and personal references
• Successfully complete physical and psychological evaluations
• Pass a drug screening test
• Complete a written examination and physical agility test

Note: The written examination and physical agility test are waived for applicants who are currently Act 120 certified in Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Capitol Police, or possess an equivalent out-of-state certification.
