Theft by Unlawful Taking Arrest, May 13, 2025, 2000 block of Coventry Rd (MT) – Matthew R. Davis, M/48, of Lancaster, PA, was charged with the above offense following the report of a theft. The victim reported that, at 16 years old, a bank account was set up for them with Matthew Davis. The custodian of this account was the co-defendant. The account was to be used for the victim’s college and future vehicle purchase. The victim was allowed to use half of the money they earned, and the other half would be saved in the victim’s bank account. The victim was paid by check at the first two jobs they worked. These paychecks were turned over to Davis to deposit into the bank account. These paychecks were never deposited by Davis or the co-defendant. The next job was paid via direct deposit. The victim would ask Davis to make withdrawals for them. The victim was never provided with a debit card or checks for the account. In May 2024, the victim obtained bank statements for their account. They found that approximately 75 unauthorized web transfers of money from their account to Davis’s account were made. The victim had not requested these to be made. The largest transfer took place on the same day that Davis purchased a vehicle. A search warrant was received for Davis’s bank account between the dates 3/8/17 and 9/7/23. The total transfer amount that is reported by the victim as not being approved totaled $46,302.50. Davis and the co-defendant also collected tax return refunds in the victim’s name between 2018 and 2022, totaling $1,744.19. The victim has not been reimbursed for the money owed.

A criminal complaint was filed on May 13, 2025.  Matthew R. Davis was arraigned before MDJ Tobin and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
