Sgt. Jared Hahn, a 22-year veteran of the agency, was unanimously confirmed by Lititz Borough Council to lead the agency as the next chief of police at the January 28, 2025 Lititz Borough Council meeting. This decision comes following the retirement announcement of Chief Kerry Nye after 45 years of service to the agency. Lititz Borough Council provided details on how the selection process was administered and an overview of the selection criteria. Hahn will work with Chief Nye, Borough leadership, and the officers and staff of the agency to ensure a smooth leadership transition occurs. This will provide assurances that a continuity of operations and administrative oversight of the agency are maintained during the period of transition.
Sgt. Jared Hahn is a Lititz native and life-long Lititz resident. He is a graduate of Warwick High School, and a 2003 graduate of the Temple University Police Academy in Philadelphia. Sgt. Hahn is entering his 22nd year with the Lititz Borough Police Department, being hired in May of 2003. In April of 2014, Sgt. Hahn was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he supervised a platoon of patrol officers. In addition to field supervisor responsibilities, Sgt. Hahn also authored agency policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives along with other operational and administrative assignments.
Sgt. Hahn is currently enrolled at Wilmington University pursing a Master’s degree in the Administration of Justice with a concentration in leadership and administration. Sgt. Hahn will complete his graduate-level studies in August of 2025. Sgt. Hahn holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Wilmington University and an Associate’s Degree in Human Services from Elizabethtown College.
Sgt. Hahn is a graduate of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command where he studied leadership, human resources, employee relations, organizational behavior, applied statistics, planning and policy development, and budgeting and resource allocation. Additionally, he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Associates Leadership Certification Program, Pennsylvania State Police Leadership Development Program, and has completed the Penn State University Justice and Safety Institute’s Police Executive Development Program, Police Supervisory In-Service Training Program, and Leadership and Command Program.
Sgt. Hahn is a member of the Lancaster County Chiefs of Police Association where he current serves as chairperson of the Lancaster County Joint Hiring Consortium and Vice-Chairperson of the Police Advisory Board to Lancaster County-Wide Communications (911).
Sgt. Hahn is a member of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association and the Pennsylvania Police Accreditation Coalition. In both organizations, Sgt. Hahn serves as an Accreditation Assessor Team Leader and Accreditation Assessor, tasked with completing initial Accreditation assessments and Accreditation re-assessments of law enforcement agencies across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Sgt. Hahn serves as an professional law enforcement consultant where he provides professional consultation services in the areas of law enforcement policy recommendations to comply with Pennsylvania Accreditation standards, Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure, Pennsylvania legal mandates through the crime and vehicle code; make recommendations based on best practices regarding the operation of evidence/property functions; cell areas and temporary holding areas; coordination of training that meets Accreditation standards and legal mandates; maintenance of agency records, and establishing systems for proof of compliance for law enforcement agencies seeking Accreditation and those maintaining Accreditation.
Sgt. Hahn is a member of the Elizabethtown College External Advisory Board for the Elizabethtown College Municipal Police Academy.
In 2010, Sgt. Hahn become the first police officer in Lancaster County to be certified as a Drug Recognition Expert. Sgt. Hahn has been qualified as an expert witness on ten occasions in the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas and Lancaster County Magisterial District Courts and permitted to provide expert witness testimony and opinions as to whether an individual was under the influence of drug(s) and/or alcohol, if so, what category or categories of drug(s) and whether the individual was under the influence of alcohol and/or drug(s) to a degree that they were incapable of safely driving a vehicle. As a Drug Recognition Expert, Sgt. Hahn has assisted in complex drug-impaired driving investigations in Lancaster, Dauphin, York, Lebanon, and Berks Counties. Sgt. Hahn is currently credentialed as a Drug Recognition Expert Instructor by the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
In 2012, Sgt. Hahn was named as the Lancaster County Outstanding Police Officer of the Year by the Lancaster County Chiefs of Police Association and in 2006, Sgt. Hahn was a recipient of the Human Relations Award by the Lancaster County Human Relations Commission.
Since 2012, Sgt. Hahn has served as the LBPD’s Accreditation Manager, responsible for the maintenance and compliance with the law enforcement Accreditation standards established by the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association. In 2023, the LBPD was awarded the top-tier level of Accreditation – “Premier” status. The LBPD is the first Borough police department in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to achieve this top-tier level of Accreditation.
Sgt. Hahn previously served the Lititz Community as an Emergency Medical Technician with the Warwick Community Ambulance Association and as an active member of the Lititz Fire Company serving as a firefighter, lieutenant, and captain and also served in an administrative role as President of the fire company. Sgt. Hahn maintains membership with the Lititz Fire Company.
Sgt. Hahn currently lives in the Lititz area with his wife and two young daughters.
