This morning, Monday, February 26, 2024, at approximately 04:27 AM, Newtown Township Police and Newtown Emergency Services responded to a report of a dwelling fire in the 400 block of Mahogany Walk, in the Newtown Grant section of Newtown Township. Police were first to arrive on location and observed and reported heavy smoke and fire. Police forced entry into the residence but were driven back by flames and smoke preventing further entry. The fire was extinguished by Newtown Emergency Services and neighboring fire services, but we are saddened to report inside the residence, an elderly female occupant was found deceased in a second-floor bedroom.
Newtown Emergency Services and the Newtown Township Police are investigating the cause and origin of the fire. All personal information is being kept confidential until all family members are notified.
Remember to reduce fire risk in your home by having working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home, have your chimney inspected, have an escape plan, and never return back inside a burning building.
