The LBPD has two Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) on staff who continually participate in impaired driving related continuing education. DREs are officers who are credentialed and certified to conduct a drug influence evaluation on drivers who are suspected of being under the influence of drug(s) other than, or in addition to, alcohol. This week, Officer Tyler Weinoldt and Sgt. Jared Hahn attended the PA DUI Association's 44th Annual Meeting in Harrisburg. The meeting included training sessions in many areas of impaired driving to include impaired driving case law updates, nuisance bar issues, Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST), Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) and Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) curriculum updates - to name a few. The cost associated with this training was provided by a grant funding stream.

Providing opportunities for continued education is just one way that the LBPD ensures our officers maintain competent and contemporary knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively mitigate the dangers posed by drug and alcohol-impaired drivers on our roadways.
