October is National Crime Prevention Month!!
We would like to remind our residents of the little things to look for and do to protect themselves. Help us “Take A Bite Out of Crime®”
Home Break-ins
- Always lock your doors, windows, garage and any connecting door between the garage and your home.
- Keep spare keys with a trusted neighbor, not under a doormat or planter, on a ledge, or in the mailbox.
- Set timers on lights when you’re away from home so it appears to be occupied.
- Illuminate or eliminate places an intruder might hide: the spaces between trees or shrubs, stairwells, alleys, hallways, and entry ways.
Vehicle Thefts & Break-ins
- Never leave your car running or the keys in the vehicle when you’re away from it, even for “just a second.”
- Always roll up the windows and lock the car, even if it’s in front of your home or in your driveway
- Park in well-lit areas.
- Never leave valuables in plain view, even if your car is locked. Put them in the trunk or at least out of sight.
**Most vehicle and home related break-ins we investigate are a result of a vehicle or residence being left unlocked**
